These days the TOPIC hosts a new creative residency, in this case from the Granada theater company Ibañez&Refoyo, a newly created company, although those who form it have a long theatrical career behind them. “La Rous, La machiné, Laviebel, La Sal, Vagalume Teatro, Clarosocuro, La Canela, Arena en los Pockets, Kaos Teatro, Mambalúa Teatro, La Machina or Lamonto, are some of the companies we have passed through,” say Ana Ibáñez and Marisa Refoyo, responsible for the dramaturgy, production, and interpretation. Completing the cast are Maite Campos in design, construction and artistic direction and Adrián Rincón in the creation, composition and musical performance.
Last year they attended the Unima Autumn School courses, which took place at the TOPIC within the framework of the Titirijai Festival, and that is where they coincided with another company, Periferia Teatro, which had just completed a creative residency at the Center. They were the ones who told them about their experience and who decided to take the step and request it. “We believe that the artistic residency work formula is the most fruitful way for creation. When we discovered the possibility of doing it at TOPIC, it seemed perfect for the moment our project was in”.
The play they are preparing is titled ‘Mala madre hay más que una’, a theater shows of objects where several languages come together: interpretation, live music and two-dimensional elements. Two actresses and a musician will play a multitude of women who live their pregnancy as best they can. Humor, freshness and irony will be the vehicle to tell her vision of motherhood. “A vindication of “bad” mothers. “Not perfect women, who survive the avalanche of emotions and changes typical of pregnancy”.
Right now, the company is at the beginning of staging and plans to premiere the work in Granada at the end of 2021.
