These days a creative residency by the contemporary dance group Ertza is taking place at TOPIC. The objective of this Guipuzcoan company is to create a new space in which different art disciplines have their place together with contemporary dance, and to be able to significantly enrich the stage language through dialogue and interaction.
From this premise we arrive at the ideology of this work, which was created in collaboration with the writer Harkaitz Cano. “The idea arose from a family problem – says the director of the play, Asier Zabaleta – linked to the loss of a loved one and how, without any warning, you have to start over from scratch, cut those threads that held you back. “They united the world.”
The work will premiere on September 17 and 18 in Gazteszena and from there, in October, it will go to the BAD Festival in Bilbao, who, like TOPIC, co-produces it.
In this way “Hariak-Hilos” emerged, which is how the work is titled. Asier met with Harkaitz to compile stories that had that common denominator and, from that moment, the director of Ertza was clear that the approach he wanted to give to the work was linked to the appearance of puppets in it and their symbolism. through the threads. “I contacted the puppeteers of the Deja Vu company, who were the ones who left us the puppets we worked with, and from there, in the month of February, we started working with them.”
In “Hariak-Hilos” six dancers work, two of them Brazilian, Thiago and Enrique, who come from the world of hip-hop and break dance, respectively; another Chilean, Claudio, and two dancers from Vizcaya, Natalia and María, these three with training in contemporary dance.
The stories that make up the show are six, all told in the first person. “I had never worked with puppets until now and I was interested in the experience of making the manipulator, far from being someone invisible, come to life and, through dance, try to deceive the viewer,” Zabaleta concludes.
