“Dreams 1” is the result of one of the creation residencies that TOPIC offers to puppetry professionals. Over the course of three months, from September to December, Roberto White has used the TOPIC facilities to create his show. “This experience has allowed me the luxury of being locked up, dedicated entirely to creation in a room with all the means to work well. The residency has been a huge laboratory for me that will probably help me create another show, ‘Sueños 2’, which will be a new chapter of this idea”.

After his residency in Tolosa, White finished the show in his country, Argentina, in collaboration with other artists. “There I have had a preview that has gone very well and that gives me good feelings for the important premiere this Saturday at the TOPIC of this performance that in a clown style uses the theater of figures and a bit of pantomime”. His new work has a larger format than with ‘Particular Creatures’, the previous work, with which he won the children’s jury prize at the Titirijai in 2012. “Before I had worked more with my hands and with smaller figures, now there are I use greater volume, although I tell a simple story: what happens inside a very particular house, a house that I carry in my head like a mask”.

“Dreams 1” is aimed at children ages eight and up, but adults are not left out of White’s creative radar. “I always try to have a plastic part that children really enjoy, but there is no shortage of winks for adults”. The house that he carries on his head, literally speaking, is a metaphor within a show that talks “about what the day is like inside a house, which is a mental house, which is in someone’s head. What happens to that being who has the same daily problems as everyone else, from waking up to nighttime nightmares”.

There is humor because White says that he really likes to “make people laugh and no matter how serious I want to get, humor is always mixed because together with tragedy they coexist in life all the time. And this show is about being a little like life”.
