The company Alas Negras has been the last to carry out a creation residency at TOPIC during 2020. This Company was founded in 2014 by Daniel Blander and Elsa Gire Péchayre, in Buenos Aires (Argentina) and in 2016 it moved to Occitania, France. Their shows are mainly visual puppet works in which they fuse different performing arts such as dance, theater, juggling or masks.

“At TOPIC from December 15 to 23, we were advancing in the creative process of our work “DéraciNés” (Uprooted). In this residency we have, mainly, polished some scenes that we put together in the last stage of work in Avignon and we have advanced by pausing the bases of other very different scenes”, says one of the participants in the Residency.

“DéraciNés” is a visual work of table and shadow puppets. A story that reveals certain consequences of the uprooting of indigenous peoples, mainly the impact it can have on adolescents. The tables, which are part of the scenery, are transformed and moved in the stage space of the play to serve the dramaturgy. The shadows take the viewer to the subconscious of the characters, to their memories and emotions”.

Last month the company participated in the launch platform of the Pendientes de un Hilo Festival, organized by the Tartana Teatro, in Madrid. The show “DéraciNés” was chosen to be programmed in 2021 and the work will premiere at said festival. They will also perform at TOPIC, co-producer of the play, although the date has yet to be determined.
