The Catalans Cal Teatre are at the TOPIC for the first time doing a creation residency, under the direction of Dora Cantero.

Throughout this week they are carrying out the structure of the entire piece “The play is already written, what we have to do here at TOPIC is to close it at a dramaturgical level, in addition to making all the decisions at the scenographic and puppet construction level”, says the director of the show.

“Mentira filthy”, which is the title of this piece, proposes a reflection on the concept of truth for children, but without falling into the cliché of ‘you can’t lie, or lying is wrong’, which they are told when they are little ones. “The concepts of truth and lies, so polarized, prevent children from being able to discover that there is a large scale of gray in the middle and that the only way to find them is to consider the possibility of doubt,” say the Cal Teatre actors, Jordi Font and Carlos Gallardo.

To talk about the topic in question, the Catalan company lets itself be carried away by the story of the Three Little Pigs and uses it as a reference for building lies like a house, a hilarious and fun metaphor with a free version of the classic story. “We talk about a dramaturgy like a construction game, the architecture of a lie with surreal overtones where the three little pigs, social networks and influencers shake hands.”

Both Font and Gallardo, the actors in this show, are used to children approaching their stories in a natural and unpretentious way. They already saw it in their previous work, ‘Game of Chairs’, the normality with which They face concepts that are not easy, which is why in ‘Mentira Cochina’ they work on the combination of their own languages, deepening their experimentation, and at the same time looking for innovative languages.

The work will premiere in the Canary Islands, under the auspices of the Caja Canarias Foundation, a week before the Titirijai celebration, to which they will attend hand in hand. After this stay at the TOPIC they will travel to another Creation Residence, in Arenys de Mar (Barcelona), where they will work on the artistic and technical part. “Before coming here to Tolosa we were in Residence in Alella de Mar and at the Casa del Teatre Nu. For us artists, the Residencies are very important because they are like intensive courses given the degree of involvement that you can have with the work, away from any interference.”
