The Galician company Nauta is currently in artistic residency at TOPIC immersed in the preparation of its show ‘Abarca do inferno’. Starting from the classic ¨Auto da Barca do Inferno¨ by the Portuguese Gil Vicente, they have made a deep dive to check the current situation of the marine environment. A critical look at the seriousness of our actions from the eyes of the inhabitants of the aquatic ecosystem.
Puppets, masks, live music, satire and tragedy are the ingredients that accompany them on this journey. We are talking about a work co-produced by the Galician Dramatic Center and the City of Culture of Santiago de Compostela.
Nauta is a young company of creators who draw from physical theater and especially from the worlds of masks and puppets. From his desire to delve deeper and discover today’s performing art, Nauta explores a theater where styles come together to open new spaces.
The company was previously at the TOPIC in creation residency, in 2020 with the work ‘Gaia Baba’. “We are delighted to have returned to this space that offers us so much. Here we are really finishing the assembly; Unfortunately, in Galicia there is no space like this. This place gives us the opportunity to finalize the lighting design, the set design and adjust the dramaturgy”, says Rafael Rey, the director of this show.
“With better tools you work better and suddenly having this week here at TOPIC gives us a month of work on our own”, adds another member of Nauta. The work will be present at this year’s Titirijai in 2023.
This summer there are already several creative residencies scheduled. The first will be from the Vudú Teatro company (Valencia) and will take place from June 26 to 30.
