Cera: quinientas horas de vuelo.

2023

It is the fifth time that Dora Cantero, director of this work, goes to TOPIC to do a creative residency. “First, I came with Mimaia and “Adiós Bienvenida”, FETEN 2013 award winner, then also with Mimaia “Pelo loco”, Gorakada “Quelionia y el mar” and with Cal teatre “Mentira cochina” and now I come with Carlos Gallardo and “Cera: quinientas” flight hours”.

“Cera: five hundred hours of flight”. It is the lifespan of a bee, Carlos tells us, and at the same time it is part of his own life. Wax is the material of the show, a material that Carlos fell in love with and that he had had in his head for a long time, the possibility of working with it. “Since January I started investigating wax, which I have always found to be a beautiful, expressive material and now was the time. I needed a first stage of research, creating the mold, seeing the different types of wax, soy, beeswax, exploring all the possibilities of the material, cast, sheets, solid, seeing how it was expressed and trying to understand all the poetics of the “wax on stage”.

At that moment Carlos calls Dora Cantero to get involved in the project and go hand in hand, as they have done on other occasions. They are both from Murcia, from the same town and live in Catalonia. “I want to do something with wax for an adult audience, was the first thing he told me, says Dora, and I want to do it from a personal side, from time and transformation. From there we began to put things together, we began to talk about common places that we have in our lives, our memories linked to our grandmothers, of the South, of the Church, the smell of wax… and we began to share life references”.

They will finish the work in May 2024. “Now it is a very sweet moment of delimiting, closing and making decisions in the midst of elaborating the damaturgy, seeing how all the visual proposals are coming together, what story we are going to tell”.
