Vudú Teatro, a Valencian company that creates its own shows where puppets, physical theater, shadows and object theater, visual poetry and words are mixed, are currently in artistic residence at the TOPIC.

“We have always been dedicated to the world of puppetry, focusing on object and shadow theater. I come from a background in physical theater, that’s why I mix knowledge. One thing that also characterizes us is that we started with small-format shows, for one, three, five spectators and, little by little, we have been growing to target a children’s, adult, and family audience”, Nelo Sebastián, the director, tells us. of the company.

Currently the company, in co-production with Mots de Tète (Eric de Sarria/Philippe Genty), is in the development phase of the new production “Oráculo F.M.”, with which they are in this creative residency. It is a seed that emerges with a duration of 10 minutes and that premiered at a small format festival in Valencia, Russafa Escènica. Then there was a 15-minute version selected and presented in Pendientes de un Hilo a year ago and now it is in the creation and development phase for its presentation as a long piece.

“With all this platform for the work to grow, the Valencian Institute of Culture gave us a subsidy and with this we were able to develop this project in better conditions. We have done residency in Valencia, at the Bambalina location, in a town in Teruel and now we have this residency in Tolosa. Then we will go to France, to Philippe Genty’s premises, although we do not consider the process concluded”, continues Nelo, director, author, and performer of this work in which Eric de Sarria, Cotu Peral and Leandro Sabino also collaborate, with whom It is found in the TOPIC.

Nelo remembers with nostalgia how 12 years ago, as a young TOPIC, he took his first course with the Philippe Genty Company, where Eric de Sarria gave workshops. “It was a nice coincidence because this was where I started creating my shows at the Summer School, in 2011”.

Eric de Sarria is another of the TOPIC experts, whom he has attended on more than one occasion. “We have done several residencies, but there is none like this one, a residence that offers you the possibility of living together while you are creating and in an environment that is yours, surrounded by puppets, with a museum, a theater…”.
