Fantastic beings.

Basque Country
This exhibition aims to show the fantastic universe of puppets that TOPIC inhabits. Some precious, others disturbing, some come from very distant cultures, mythologies and religions, others very close to ours, and others so close that they could define the individual universe of each one of us.
This exhibition brings together some 85 puppets with manipulation techniques (string, glove, rod, shadows, but also masks and giants, for example) and different origins (puppets from all over the world, with special attention to the mythical-religious universe of the Ramayana and Mahabharata. , Hindu religious mythical poems).
The puppets are structured into four large blocks:
  • Masks
  • Witches, demons and deaths
  • The imaginary derived from religions such as catholic and western mythologies (European and American puppets mostly)

  • Traditional fantastic characters
  • The epic-religious imaginary from Asia

  • Personal universes
  • The disturbing inner world of some contemporary puppet makers

It is played with puppets of very different sizes (from smaller glove puppets that can look at the visitor from face to face, to shadow puppets and giant bunrakus that are always impressive due to their size). And to the extent of the possibilities of the exhibition hall, an attempt is made to use the room light in favour of creating this magical and fantastic universe.
This exhibition is aimed at family audiences, since many of the puppets that may seem disturbing to the eyes of adults, may or certainly not be to the eyes of children, who may describe them as "ugly" or even they can be funny. But at the same time, it is a transversal and very interesting look at the TOPIC puppet collection; a rereading of its collections that is original and very attractive to all kinds of audiences.
