The institutional event, which was chaired by the Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu, was held this Monday at the Azkuna Zentroa in Bilbao, where the work carried out by 530 entities and professionals from the Euskadi tourism sector who have completed the training itinerary and commitments that forms the Euskadi Code of Ethics.
The Code of Ethics for Tourism in the Basque Country ensures the basic rights of tourists, promoting the choice of sustainable establishments and a commitment to actions by both the Department of Tourism, Commerce and Consumption of the Basque Government and by the sector.
Specifically, those who join undertake to respect the rights of tourists, their peculiarities, lifestyles, tastes, expectations, diversity of beliefs and the Basque Government must preserve the safety and protection of the people who visit us and their estate. Tourists, likewise, will be informed and summoned so that they respect the laws, culture and habits and social uses of Euskadi.
The Code emphasizes that tourism-related activities respect gender equality, inclusion and tolerance. Environmental sustainability will also be protected with concrete actions, especially with the promotion of seasonal adjustment and decentralization of tourist movements and with the promotion of ecotourism and nature tourism that respects the natural heritage and ecosystems.
