Shipwrecks and vestiges of the expedition to the land of Narragonia. Joan Baixas | 2016 | Catalonia
Joan Baixas wants the visitor to play an active part in this exhibition that he catalogues as “static and silent theatre. It is not a sculpture exhibition, but a theatre play. However, it does not rely on movement and word, but on the presence of objects and the invitation to the visitor to create their own stories”.
He has a very defined idea concerning how he would like visitors to move around the exhibition: “They must be part of the game. Mine is a proposal that makes you think, imagine; its aim is for us to make theatre together. I will not act, but you will with your imagination. It is an invitation to play and reflection. I would say that the pieces are something closer to visual poems than puppets. While working on these pieces, I strived to take them to a point that would allow me to make theatre witho
Another of this exhibition’s appeals is a small collection of paintings, especially if we take into account how scarce Baixas’ painting exhibitions are. “I always say that, artistically speaking, I am between painting and theatre; but it has been in the latter that my professional development has taken place, while the former is a complement, a companion, a place for meditation and introspection”.
